The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA), New York Healthcare (VISN 2), Northport VA Healthcare System, in Environmental Management Service (EMS). The primary duties of this position involve supervision of all aspects of laundry, linen and uniform distribution.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Planning: Direct the accomplishment of assigned work operations and evaluates completed work to assure that standards of quality assurance are met. Develops work assignments, instructions, and coordination of laundry/linen delivery, insignia machine operation, and soiled linen pickup activities in such a way to assure that service goals are achieved in an effective manner. Establishes daily and monthly work schedules for subordinates, including a 12-month leave schedule for all employees. Schedules, approves, and/or disapproves all leave requests for subordinates. Maintains a sound leave policy, developing time schedules to assure that there is adequate coverage to provide required linen delivery and soiled linen pickup.
Work Direction: Makes plans for equipment and materials required to accomplish each work assignment. Ensures that work is assigned to employees in a way that effectively uses their skills without discriminatory practices. Provides information and advice on the amount of time to accomplish tasks, type of equipment to purchase, and changes of assignment personnel. Recommends promotions, reassigns subordinates within own area of responsibility, makes formal appraisal of their work performance, and determines their training needs. Counsel employees orally and written and takes first level disciplinary actions against employees when deemed necessary. Recommends higher level disciplinary actions when necessary. Provides appropriate documentation to justify all such actions.
Administration: Keeps accurate records and is responsible for maintaining appropriate linen stock levels; maintains yearly linen inventory; develops linen quotas for each area and conducts annual linen inventory and assists with input and planning for budget requirements of items that will be required throughout the fiscal year. Performs written Environmental Sanitation Inspections of all areas of linen storage soiled linen areas, uniform storage areas, and linen/laundry building. Keeps accurate records and is responsible for timely submission of reports such as the time sheets every pay period, the number of annual leave hours used, number of sick leave hours used, number of AWOL, and Leave without Pay. Prepares and submits Employee Accident Report forms in accordance with medical center policy. Keeps daily time and leave records to include Environmental Care Daily reports. Ensures that all attendance and performance problems are dealt with immediately through conducting employee leave reviews on a need be basis. Interviews prospective employees and makes recommendation for hiring to EMS Manager or designee. Also had responsibility and authority to reward employees for high level performance.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent will be required to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull carts weighing up to 600 pounds.
