This Supervisory Laundry Operations Specialist position is located in Environmental Management Service at the Boston VA Healthcare System in Brockton, Massachusetts. This is a full time position at 40 hours per week.

Duties

This position serves as the Deputy to the Chief of the VISN One Consolidated Laundry Service and fully shares in the duties, responsibilities and authorities of the organization. Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervising a wage grade workforce through subordinate supervisors/leaders by following personnel management policies and procedures, union contracts, special emphasis programs, etc. Analyzing facility operations in order to evaluate effectiveness of Laundry operations and recommend changes. Communicating orally and in writing with a wide variety of personnel and multiple installations. Carrying out the operations and scheduling requirements of the laundry plant to meet customer requirements and delivery times. Determining staffing needs and organizational structure to determine effectiveness of manpower and resource utilization; making recommendations to the Laundry Service Chief. Working with the chief in identifying problems, initiating corrective actions and determining the resources necessary to be in compliance with JCAHO, EPA, DVA, OCHA, ect. policies and regulations. Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjust short term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work. Providing advice, counsel or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Identifying developmental training needs for employees; providing or arranging for developmental training. Developing performance standards. Making decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors, team leaders, other service line employees and contractors. Reviewing and approving disciplinary actions involving non-supervisory subordinates. Finding and implementing ways to promote team building, improve business practices and eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production. Coordinating work efforts, resolve problems and conduct planning and work direction functions. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Compressed/Flexible: Not available. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/06/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. To qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but not limited to: Reviewing and enforcing polices and procedures regarding laundry and linen management; Applying sanitation procedures and using of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment; Communicating effectively orally or in writing with internal and external leadership and other personnel; Analyzing budget/funding issues to assist in fund allocation; Initiating corrective actions and determine the resources necessary to maintain compliance with JCAJO, EPA, DVA, OSHA, ect. policies and regulations. (NOTE: The specialized experience must be well-documented on your resume.) Preferred candidates will possess the following or must obtain within 12 months of accepting the position: Certified Laundry and Linen Manger (CLLM) and Registered Laundry and Linen Director (RLLD) certification. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The incumbent walks throughout the medical center, and will be trained in all aspects of Environmental Management Service which requires stooping, bending, walking, lifting, and twisting.
