The primary purpose of this position is: To deliver administrative and legal assistant support to those legal office locations, staff attorneys, and legal support staff under the responsibility of the United States Space Command Staff Judge Advocate (SJA).
Duties
Performs administrative work in support of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA). Serves as assistant office manager for the SJA under the supervision of the Law Office Manager (LOM). Provides advice and guidance to staff on administrative, clerical, and procedural requirements and instructions, and assists other clerical staff in locating and selecting the appropriate guidelines, references and procedures for application to specific issues.
Serves as a legal assistant; prepares case files upon receipt of incoming correspondence; annotates files to designate receipt or dispatch of legal documents or correspondence; routes to appropriate attorney or legal staff; monitors suspense dates; and maintains file until action is complete. Receives research and analysis assignments from supervisor, supported attorneys, and legal staff on a variety of legal subjects.
Provides a full range of computerized data processing support for United States Space Command legal office locations, ensuring that word processing, database information, local area network, and other computer systems are maintained and operated in accordance with Command standards and guidelines. Operates and maintains local area network connectivity for all assigned computer terminals, on classified and unclassified networks.
Assists in the management of office resources and in identification and procurement of needed equipment and materials. Provides supplies to the office in accordance with its mission and budget and maintains control of the supply locker in the office.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience includes delivering administrative support and legal assistant support to legal office locations, staff attorneys, to include assists LOM with personnel accountability; inputs data into command and service systems to process leave, travel, and personnel actions. Additionally, must have skill in reviewing current legislation, regulations, directives, and decisions of various courts and administrative bodies, bringing to the attention of attorneys changes pertinent to their assigned fields.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of preparing and editing legal documents and administrative correspondence, maintenance of files and records, and assembling information for various legal documents and reports; and knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and required legal formats and directives regarding preparation of written communications to produce legal and administrative documents and communications.
Knowledge of legal principles, concepts, and terms of art to interpret and apply directives, precedents, and practices in the areas of operations and international law, civil law, and military justice and discipline.
Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis sufficient to perform recurring case development and documentation assignments, which are frequently covered by judicial or regulatory precedent.
Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to accurately assess information and make sound decisions to include knowledge of the budget process.
Skill sufficient to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate administrative issues; and maintain good working relationships with diverse groups and executive-level command management.
Skill to use a wide range of information systems and various office automation applications, tools, and techniques to support office operations, to include development of web pages, SharePoint sites, and similar outreach and collaboration tools, and to produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position is designated special-sensitive and requires a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance.
Employee may be required to function as a Notary Public. Must be able to satisfactorily complete training to become a Notary Public and be able to meet bonding or other requirements inherent in the appointment as a Notary Public.
