About the Position: One vacancy to be filled in either Falls Church, VA or San Antonio, TX. This is not a remote position.
Duties
Serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the DHA.
Plan, organize, and conduct an agency-wide comprehensive inspection activity.
Evaluate the effectiveness of occupational safety requirements in the work environment.
Assess the degree of compliance with applicable regulation and standards.
Develop changes and modifications to a broad range of work processes, equipment operations, and protective devices to minimize injuries to employees and damage to agency property.
Participate in planning and executing special safety inspections or evaluations in chemical/biological safety and other assigned program areas involving difficult problems or controversies.
Brief and respond to queries from the DHA on safety and occupational health matters, as requested.
Develop curriculum and agency-wide educational effort for directors and employees in occupational safety and health regulations, practices and procedures.
Consult and manage user agreements with other agency experts (e.g. industrial hygienists, physicians, environmental engineers, etc.) in the resolution of difficult environmental hazards and the development of safety guidance and procedures.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing and coordinating an assigned program involving functions such as: safety program management, safety management systems, radiological safety and health, accident prevention and control, safety education and promotion, accident investigation, analysis and reporting, occupational health, motor vehicle safety, dangerous and hazardous cargo handling, safety and health committee activities, hospital safety, fire protection and prevention, and inspection of workplace hazard identification and reporting; overseeing the development and implementation of safety policy, procedures for technical safety standards, codes and requirements for a wide variety of operations; and managing and maintaining a system of scheduled comprehensive inspections, for the numerous work places, training sites, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
