About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Joint Personal Property Shipping Office, Mid-Atlantic Command Leadership, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Duties

Oversees and manages all aspects of transportation and distribution operations, ensuring efficient movement of materials and equipment in support of mission-critical logistics objectives. Develops and implements strategic transportation plans, including routing, scheduling, and mode selection, to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. Provides expert guidance on transportation policies, regulations, and procedures to senior leadership and ensures compliance with federal transportation laws and international trade agreements. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and third-party logistics providers, to optimize transportation workflows and resolve logistical challenges. Monitors transportation-related contracts and agreements, ensuring performance metrics are met, costs are controlled, and service levels align with organizational goals. Leads risk assessments and contingency planning for transportation operations, addressing potential disruptions and developing mitigation strategies for supply chain continuity. Prepares and presents detailed reports and analyses on transportation efficiency, costs, and performance metrics to senior leadership, using data-driven insights to recommend process improvements.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with Department of Defense Directive 5500-7-R.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
