This position is in the Criminal Section, Civil Rights Division, U. S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. The Criminal Section primarily prosecutes cases involving unconstitutional use of force and other misconduct by law enforcement officers, hate crimes, human trafficking and involuntary servitude, and interference with access to reproductive health care.

The incumbent will serve as a Equal Opportunity Investigator. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Conducting and/or assisting with appropriate investigative steps, such as reviewing evidence
Conducting open-source investigation for trial research, and analyzing and organizing the results of such searches
Drafting reports and preparing and handling electronic evidence
Maintaining and Utilizing the Section's case management system, as well as programs such as Excel, Power Point, and Access to present information in response to inquiries.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience Requirements
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service, public, or other private sectors that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes THREE of the following:
Working on investigations and/or prosecutions of federal criminal civil rights cases;
Conducting open-source investigations;
Interviewing and communicating with witnesses and people who have been marginalized or traumatized;
Locating, collecting, and interpreting data and documents to discover federal criminal civil rights violations
For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service, public, or other private sectors that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes one or more of the following:
Working on investigations and/or prosecutions of federal criminal civil rights cases; AND
Conducting open-source investigations; AND
Interviewing and communicating with witnesses and people who have been marginalized or traumatized; AND
Locating, collecting and interpreting data and documents to discover federal criminal civil rights violations. AND
Analyzing all types of digital evidence of any criminal, civil, intelligence or national security matter.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees applying for a higher grade must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You MUST provide an SF-50, which shows position, type of service appointment, tenure group, grade, duty location, and salary. If your most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year (52 weeks) time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Consider providing an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade (examples of appropriate SF-50s include: Promotions; Within Grade/Range Increases; and SF-50s dated a year apart within the same grade/position. No award SF-50s will be accepted). Failure to submit the required SF-50 document will result in an ineligible rating under merit promotion procedures.
