Duties

Develop an installation wide ASAP Prevention Education Plan of Instruction. Design special courses in response to identified ASAP trends and needs of the installation. Develop, supervise, and conduct leadership training programs in alcohol and drug abuse for troop commanders, platoon leaders, and senior NCOs. As the EAPC, conduct initial interview and assesses nature of employees’ problem(s), which may interfere with job performance. When necessary and in coordination with clinical personnel, refers clients to the appropriate treatment, rehabilitative program or facility. Publicize ASAP/EAP services and ensures supervisors and employees receive training on how to access and use services. Develop and conduct public/community awareness programs. Coordinate items for release to the news media/public affairs; bulletins; fliers; newsletters, etc., including audio and visual presentations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Attain and maintain Certified Employee Assistance Professional status through the Employee Assistance Certification Commission established by the Employee Assistance Professionals Association within 3 years of assuming the duties of the position.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Employee Assistance Program Coordinator: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as social work, psychology, or counseling. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: screening and assessments and recommending programs and/or services to partnering agencies, experience participating in public/community awareness programs for drug and alcohol abuse prevention; conducting formal and informal interviews with employees and supervisors; AND developing training for substance abuse prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: social work, psychology, or counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
