Duties

Studies and analyzes the installation’s activities and develops fire prevention and protection programs to meet the needs of this installation. Supervises multiple Assistant Chiefs, Assists and approves with Fire Chief’s concurrence the development and implementation of effective fire prevention educational training programs for the populace of the installation. Makes recommendations for the improvements based upon studies and observations of operations, practices, and procedures of the Fire and Emergency Services Division. Represents the organization at meetings, conferences, and workshops for the purpose of enhancing response capabilities and maintains personal proficiency through attendance of professional training programs. Supervises the testing of equipment/apparatus and ensure that the necessary supporting reports are properly prepared and maintains liaison with state, county, Federal, and other local entities related to training matters of this division.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain the following certifications within one year of employment: National Incident Management System certifications (NIMS): IS-700, IS-800, IS-100, IS-300, IS-400.
  • This position requires pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical examinations are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to participate in a physical fitness program.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and safety apparel.
  • This position is mission essential.
  • This position requires the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle and obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a government driver's license within 6 months of being employed into the position.
  • A secret security clearance is required.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • The normal tour of duty for this position is 60 hours per week.
  • A supervisory probationary period is required.
  • Position is subject to one-year probationary period.

Directing operational activities for fire stations including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities. 2. Managing programs such as fire suppression response, hazardous material control and mitigation, technical rescue, aircraft crash rescue, emergency medical first response. 3. Reviewing updates and recommending changes to division standard operating procedures and guidelines. 4. Approving awards or disciplinary actions from subordinate supervisors, making recommendations for those actions that warrant decision from the Fire Chief. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer III Certification, Airport Firefighter Certification, Fire Instructor II Certification, Fire Inspector II Certification and Hazardous Materials Incident Commander Certification certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
