The primary purpose is to provide emergency police, fire, & medical services to public by answering emergency 911 calls & responding with appropriate personnel & equipment. Maintains accurate status of emergency equipment & personnel ensure prompt & accurate response. Equipment includes police, firefighting, hazardous materials, wild land firefighting, technical rescue & ambulance services. Provides advanced emergency medical dispatch life support through pre-arrival instructions to callers.
Duties
Provide emergency 911 call taking and dispatching services; selects the appropriate emergency response forces from the Fire Department Response Matrix based on the information received and the 911 center checklists.
Perform Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers with medical emergencies; verifies the location and call back number for a medical patient and evaluates the severity of the emergency situation using EMD checklists, in accordance with national standards
Maintain maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs and maintains an automated activity log of all significant daily events, vehicle movements, emergencies, processes, or notifications received through the E-911 center.
Operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center.
Prepare National Fire Incident Reports, utilizing the correct response codes and categories to complete the response report for each emergency incident, in accordance with published guidelines.

- Travel and relocation will not be paid
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Certification as a Telecommunicator, Level II within 24 months of entrance on duty.
- This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
- This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Incumbent is required to work on alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including weekends and holidays).
- Incumbent is required to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure and report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled work time.

- Required to maintain good working relationships with on and off-base agencies, maintaining a consistently courteous attitude at all times. Keeps calm and cool during emergency situations.

- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.
- 120-Day Register: This announcement may result in a 120-day register that may be used to fill like vacancies for 120 days after the closing date. Applicants may be referred for consideration as vacancies occur.
- Must participate in exercises by relaying accurate information and follow appropriate checklist. Must be resourceful and alert to adequately perform duties.
- Incumbent must participate in recurrent proficiency training, as directed.
- This position is designated as a key position. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
- Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience gained while assisting with operating a telephone system to direct local and routine or complicated long-distance calls of various precedence, performing dispatch coordination, and using standard firefighting, medical, aircraft, hazardous materials emergency response operations and communication techniques.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of communications operations to include a basic knowledge of trunked radio operations, and patching radio frequencies.
2. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data. A qualified typist is not required.
3. Knowledge of location and availability of vehicle fleet, the type of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. And a basic knowledge of firefighting techniques and terminology.
4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations.
5. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
