Duties
Plan, initiate, direct and complete research for Brooke Army Medical Center.
Assist clinicians and graduate health science education students in planning, coordinating and implementing clinical research.
Aid in protocol development, electronic review board submissions, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing, manuscript publication, and research presentations.
Recruit and enroll eligible participants or patients. Obtain informed consent, collect accurate data to include demographics, patient medical history, patient physiologic parameters, patient laboratory/radiologic data, surveys, questionnaires.
Develop and support research efforts with programs. Oversees the day to day management of programs.
Review, evaluate, and develop recommendations concerning the research operations, including policies and programs designed to improve program effectiveness.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 44 pounds is required.

Basic Requirement for Research Coordinator:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing grants to ensure department adherence to applicable policies and collecting participant data for research studies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: any health science discipline to include Health Care Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
