The position of Plumber is assigned to the Engineering Service, Maintenance and Operations Section, Operations Group, Plumbing Shop and is located at Southern Arizona Healthcare System in Tucson, Arizona. This position reports directly to the Operations Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations Section.
Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Install, modify and repair new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment.
Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and proper operation of systems and equipment.
Install, modify, and repair systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope, and determining and installing valves, traps, and unions needed for proper operation of systems.
Route and place systems leading to the equipment, and seating, hooking up, and testing equipment.
Preventive maintenance of domestic hot and cold-water systems in patient care areas for the control and prevention of the Legionella organism and scald prevention.
Assess risk, monitor water quality and implement appropriate engineering controls to limit the growth of the Legionella organism.
Sample, flush, monitor, log, and upkeep with documentation and record-keeping for Monthly Water Quality Reports to the facility Water Safety Committee.
Certification: Required to have a current Arizona State Backflow Prevention testing certification or obtain within the first six months of employment.
PREFERRRED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least four (4) years of practical journeyman experience working with commercial plumbing systems to include working with mixing valves, bathroom fixtures, copper pipe, and cast-iron piping systems.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard to reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent is required to lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
