This position is located in the Quality Department at Claremore Indian Hospital (CIH). The incumbent will manage a comprehensive patient advocate management program and ensure the program meets all accrediting and regulatory guidelines. Routine duties shall include advocating for patient services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Indian Health Service.
Duties
Patient Advocate Program Management- Participates in the overall planning, development and implementation of health service standards and quality control, including the review and evaluation of existing health program, facility accreditation standards, Federal regulations, best practices, and IHS policy. Serves as liaison between Service Unit, patients, the hospital staff, and the community for issues pertaining to patients' rights and advocacy.
Administrative- Maintains records of patient inquiries. Identify and presents program updates to departmental supervisors, Executive Leadership, Governing Board, and stakeholders as appropriate. Prepares written reports for internal and external reporting of patient advocate program. Prepares and presents recommendations to Executive Leadership involving changes that will reduce or eliminate patient dissatisfaction to Executive Leadership
Public Relations- Participates in patient representative professional groups, for the purpose of improved communication, improved public relations, professional growth, and the opportunity to share experiences of the Indian Health Service. Assists with public relations involving patients, to increase community and patient awareness of Indian health care resources.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, as described in the vacancy announcement performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized experience providing patient-centered services in an ambulatory health clinical environment; recommend patient-centered processes, development of care and treatment plans; provides recommended consultation to other health care providers in areas such as patient care and clinical procedures; providing patient and family health education, and serving as a patient advocate; discussing with patients, and family members the basis of treatment protocols, and clinical procedures as well as the roles of various team members, protocol specifics and anticipated schedule of events; coordinate communication between patients, family members, medical staff, administrative staff, or regulatory agencies; interview patients or their representatives to identify problems relating to care; develops and engages coordination of appropriate health care services for patients with clinical guidance.
AND/OR
Education: Completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years (54 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work or LL.M., if related.
AND/OR
Combining Education and Experience: Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-11 grade level. Must submit transcripts.
Graduate Education: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
