This position is located within the Fort Thompson, Department of Behavioral Health Services.
The Fort Thompson Service Unit's mission is to raise the health status of the American Indian to the high level possible by providing quality, accessible, safe and comprehensive health services sensitive to the needs of the Native American people.
Duties
Provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of psychiatric illnesses and emotional/psychological problems.
Provides individual, marital, family and group counseling services to all age groups including children and adolescents.
Provides crisis intervention services in a wide variety of situations including suicide intervention, drug and alcohol abuse and dependency, martial conflict and parent-child conflict.
Develops and manages case management services for the IHS outpatient programs which involves complex liaison, consultation and teaching relationships to a multidisciplinary team on behalf of patients requiring intensive treatment and referral services.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements
Degree: Social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-9: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-7 grade level and/or two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
GS-11: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level and/or three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-9: provide basic assessment, diagnose, and treat a range of psychiatric illnesses; identify and assess psychosocial functioning; understand and respond to medical treatment; provide therapeutic intervention to improve wellness; provide intensive case management services to include liaison, consultation, and teaching relationships to multidisciplinary team; provide referral services and counseling to all age groups.
GS-11: collaborate with other health professionals to assess client needs; refer patients to community resources; provide individual or group counseling; coordinate care with expert diagnostic and treatment consultation to medical providers; assess in-patient needs and patient discharge planning; provide therapy to all age groups utilizing a variety of accepted treatment techniques; develop treatment plans; provide interventions surrounding drug, alcohol, co-occurring disorders, and crisis intervention to potentially life-threatening emergencies.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF):
This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). Please provide a copy of your license with your application.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
