This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.
Duties
Check the condition of foundations, structural members, walls, flooring, porches, roofs, doors, and windows, guttering, plumbing, electrical, systems, etc., for safety and fire hazards and evidence of pest infestation.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance of buildings and fixtures, with responsibility for recognizing potential problems and taking necessary steps to prevent future repair and replacement.
Inspect condition of paint, plumbing fixtures, water and disposal lines.
Perform a variety of repair work using standard methods and techniques of carpentry, painting, and plumbing and basic electrical, etc., in the performance of on-the-spot repairs to trouble calls.
Perform incidental clerical or record keeping tasks.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and keep current a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirement for the type vehicle being operated.
- May be required to work nights, weekends and/or rotational shifts.
- Assures that environmental, safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
- Mission Essential: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
- Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 10% is required with this position.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision: perform work associated with a variety of trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, cement work, appliance maintenance, and welding, electrical and building maintenance; prepare surfaces for painting; replace electrical outlets; repair or replace toilets; install door locks, latches and hinges; clean gutters and down spouts; install plumbing pipes and fixtures. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee works in shops and at job sites. Strenuous physical exertion is often required. Employee may lift and move materials up to 40 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Employee is required to stand, stoop, and bend. Knelling, climbing on ladders, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, sawdust, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment when performing work in the shop area. Work at job sites exposes employee to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises and contusions. May be required to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required. Steel toe shoes, hard hats and safety glasses, are required at all times. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.
