The Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) Lead Prosthetic Clerk performs clerk duties, and direct medical supply Purchasing and Inventory Management support to Logistics and Clinical services of the VA to provide durable medical equipment and supplies, directly to Veterans. This is a direct patient care position.
Duties
Major duties include:
Explains assignments, projects, problems requiring resolution, deadlines, etc.
Distributes and balances workload among employees.
Coaches on selection and application of problem-solving methods and techniques.
Advises on work methods, practices and procedures.
Oversees accuracy and timeliness of work assignments.
Provides on the job training.
Monitor working conditions.
Resolve simple, informal employee complaints.
Reports on employee performance, progress, and training related matters to supervisor.
Operates the prosthetic software package to maintain accurate records of all veteran transactions using VA Form 10-2319 via DHCP, detailing the items or services provided.
Uses JCAHO standards for sanitizing used/returned equipment when necessary.
Performs data entry to post all stock issues to patient records accurately.
Reviews consult requests to ensure the veteran's needs are met through the issuance of appropriate equipment.
Examines the Prosthetic Consult to verify eligibility and routes it to the appropriate personnel for pertinent action.
Interviews Veterans and handles beneficiary phone calls, advising on the Prosthetic Service Card (PSC) for repair services.
Studies the use of prosthetic appliances and services, recommending changes based on patient care requirements.
Sets priorities and meets deadlines on special and unique assignments as required.
Analyzes and identifies potential problems with veteran consults and makes appropriate referrals to the Purchasing team.
Promotes a culture of safety by cooperating fully with efforts to improve patient safety, including reporting incidents resulting in actual or potential harm.
Advises physicians on the procedures for providing prosthetic appliances and services in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
Independently counsels veterans, family members, caregivers, and stakeholders on the services and items provided by the Prosthetic Service.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/24/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: record maintenance, data entry, inventory, reviewing consultation requests for accuracy, eligibility verification, customer service, setting priorities and meeting deadlines, data analysis, and making referrals.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, requiring some walking, climbing and carrying light to medium heavy stock items up to 25 pounds and make adjustments to equipment to properly fit the patients. The employee may be required to receive and store stock appliances. In the course of doing the, the employee may need to remove large or bulky items from packing boxes and push or carry them to storage facilities. Items may weigh up to 25 pounds. The incumbent my periodically handle equipment returned from veterans with contagious diseases. Climbing associated with stocking equipment in storage areas may be necessary.
