The primary purpose of this position is to install, troubleshoot, repair, and modify large/complex systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating.
Duties
The employee repairs, troubleshoots and maintains a wide variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supporting equipment with complex problems and extensive repairs requiring expert judgment to locate malfunctions.
Plans, designs, lays out, and installs a variety of large and complex commercial and industrial systems and support equipment used to condition air in warehouses, shops, hangars, research labs, packaging labs, medical facilities, child development centers, flight simulators and large office buildings, often in mission-critical facilities requiring a constant set of conditions.
Troubleshoots a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supporting equipment.
Installs or repairs cylindrical, square, or rectangular shaped pre-manufactured sheet metal objects which have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double, or grooved seams and are associated with HVAC systems.
Utilizes established safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Installs, modifies, repairs and maintains new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as Steam and High Temperature Hot Water Heating, steam and High Temperature Hot Water generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate and circulating pumps, radiators or heating coils. Measures, calculates and determines proper piping, valves, pressure regulators and fittings for the job: insulates pipes, and measures, cuts, threads, reams and welds pipe.
Requirements

- This position may require travel.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
