The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical and assistance support, as needed, in support of audits, investigations, and outreach concerning ERISA laws, regulations, and communication. The position also provides IT and general administrative support. This position is Inside the bargaining unit.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Assists in processing cases and case-related materials, reviews case processing actions and preliminary determinations and retrieves information as directed. Receives telephone calls and visitors to the office. Elicit information and respond to inquiries as appropriate. The position arranges conferences including assembling materials, data, etc. Contacts complainants in certain situations to gather information needed by EBSA professionals and managers to determine whether an investigation should be open. Serve as a liaison with entities outside the department such as private organizations, the IRS, event organizations for outreach logistics, etc. May assist during large and/or complex on-site reviews. Maintains control of files to indicate the status of reviews, nature of actions, follow-up action (s) required, and disposition of the case, and other essential control elements. Complete general office administrative duties including preparing letters, memorandums, reports, and other documents. Maintains office filing system including hard cop of electronic files. Maintains guidance necessary for office operations. Performs a full range of clerical activities associated with the utilization of technologies supporting development and management of investigations and inquiries. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

Qualifications

You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for the Employee Benefits Assistant, as described below. Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-05 in the Federal Service. Specialized Experienceis the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience for this position include: Experience in updating information in various on-line databases; Experience with administrative support which includes familiarity with typing/reviewing documents for format, grammatical accuracy, maintaining files, handling correspondence, and transcribing correspondence and reports from rough drafts into proper format, etc.; Received, reviewed, and distributed incoming correspondence for accuracy and completeness; Handled office filing system, including hard copy or electronic files; Experience in oral communication with office personnel to accomplish objectives.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the required specialized experience for this series at the GS-06 level.
