About the Position: Serves as the Director of the consolidated museums and related programs of Military History and Heritage. The museums contain large collections of foreign and domestic material of historical value. Independently discharges responsibility for the oversight,operation, management, development, and expansion of the museums. Serves as a senior advisor to the local Commander on matters pertaining to the US Army Museum Enterprise, its programs, and regulations

Duties

Independently discharges responsibility for the oversight, operation, management, development, and expansion of museum complex. Plans and supervises all museum operations to include facilities, outreach, programming, partners with the Collections Manager for strategic oversight of exhibits, conservation's, and management of collections. Directs subordinate museum curators to assure the timely performance of assigned projects and the adequacy of work performed. Responsible for long-range planning and development of the consolidated museums. Oversees the operating budget made up of appropriated monies and ensures the expenditure of those funds. Ensures subordinates are in compliance with safety, environmental, security, and internal control regulations and measures. Represents the consolidated museums at various local, state, regional, and national meetings, and councils Consults with fellow professionals and collaborates with them in performing research, preparing publications, and securing or providing technical assistance to school groups, civic organizations, and military personnel. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set, and adjust short-period priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Oversees the management efforts of all facility requirements and projects to support the consolidated museums and associated buildings and land. Oversees the plans, programs, and budgets for minor and major construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities, physical security, safety, environmental compliance, and contract compliance.

  • Temporary duty travel of 15% may be required for this position.
  • This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.
  • A Supervisory probationary period may be required if not already completed.

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR C. Experience: Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above. Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes developing management programs and policies; performing administrative oversight to include restoration of artifacts to contractors; managing multiple subordinate museums and/or training support facilities; and expediting museum facility maintenance and/or new construction needs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
