Based at the Hiouchi Visitor Center, incumbent will develop/lead a full range of formal interpretive programs including talks, hikes, evening programs, and other special programs; coordinate day-to-day operations of a visitor center including schedule development, and assist with coordination of special events for the district. Duties

Researches, develops, and presents a wide variety of personal and non-personal audience-centered interpretive programs, products, and experiences. Performs and coordinates day-to-day operations of visitor center, information center, ranger station, or similar facility in accordance with standard operating procedures. Uses computers, computer software, web/cloud-based systems, and office equipment to assist in the management of a visitor services operation and facilitate park wide communication. Serves as a frontline leader and/or supervisor, recruiting and managing temporary personnel (at full-performance level), coordinating day-to-day work assignments, and coaching/mentoring and training team members to achieve high-quality visitor services and professional standards in resource interpretation. At the full performance level this position serves as a frontline leader, recruiting and mentoring personnel and coaching interpretive programs. Additional duties may include leading or assisting with half-day guided kayak trips in summer. RNSP is co-managed with CA Department of Parks & Recreation (CDPR), and these positions work closely with partner staff. Duties are sometimes performed in CDPR visitor centers. Duties listed are at the full performance level of the position (GS-09).

Qualifications

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. Basic Qualification Requirements: At the GS-7 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level, or higher, in the Federal service, or equivalent, which includes all of the following: Developing and presenting a variety of interpretive programs including orientation talks, conducting walks, and giving demonstrations to a variety of audiences; Developing interpretive materials, such as brochures, guidebooks, handouts, exhibits; Operating a variety of audiovisual and other media used in connection with interpretive programs; and Performing day to day operations of a visitor center, information center, or similar facility. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation such as natural resource management, natural sciences, ecology, biology, geology, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, social sciences, museum sciences, geography, English or other languages, behavioral sciences, sociology, education, or communication (one year of full-time graduate education is defined as 18 semester hours). You must include transcripts. -OR- SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT (S.A.A.): Must meet the criteria for the S.A.A., as evidenced by one of the three following methods: 1) in the upper third of graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; 2) have a GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; or 3) a member in one of the national scholastic honor societies. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. You must include transcripts. At the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, or higher, in the Federal service, or equivalent, which includes all of the following: Developing and presenting a variety of interpretive programs including orientation talks, conducting walks, and giving demonstrations to a variety of audiences; Developing interpretive materials, such as brochures, guidebooks, handouts, exhibits; Operating a variety of audiovisual and other media used in connection with interpretive programs; Performing day to day operations of a visitor center, information center, or similar facility; and Leading and/or training an aspect or function of an interpretive or visitor services operation, directing/delegating tasks, offering guidance and feedback to team members, and troubleshooting discrepancies. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full academic years of graduate education related to the occupation, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree, such as natural resource management, natural sciences, ecology, biology, geology, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, social sciences, museum sciences, geography, English or other languages, behavioral sciences, sociology, education, or communication (two years of graduate education is defined as 36 semester hours). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. You must include transcripts. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

RNSP is located on the northern California coast. The temperate rain forest and coastal environments provide moderate temperatures even in summer, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in near 50 F. Crescent City, CA (pop. 8,500) and Brookings, OR (pop. 6,000) each have multiple grocery stores, a hospital, pharmacies, and restaurants.
