ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: This position is located at the Parker Indian Health Center, Parker, AZ. This position will function in various duties involving outpatient and inpatient responsibilities that require application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical and pharmacy practice. This position reports to the Chief Pharmacist.
Duties
Major Duties:
Prescription processing and filling, bulk compounding, maintaining inventory and supplies, refilling and maintaining ScriptPro robot.
Able to interpret, monitor and analyze physician's medical orders under pharmacist supervision.
Technical knowledge of drug and medication brand names, generic names/chemical names.
Dispense medication refills and provides customer service to patients.
Works with insurance companies to get prior authorizations for medications as required by individual insurers.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized Experience: For positions at GS-4 and above: Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have been provided a basic knowledge of:
Pharmaceutical nomenclature;
Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals;
Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the
Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NOTE: Your specialized experience may have been gained in a hospital pharmacy or retail pharmacy, or in a pharmaceutical firm or laboratory. The experience must have provided a basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least six (6) months of general experience AND six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: skill in ordering and receiving drugs from supply department, filling work, ascertaining and replenishing needs in clinic and pharmacy supply areas; OR
Education: Successfully completed 2 years of study in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Technology that included at least 12 semester hours in courses in the care, storage, distribution and preparation of pharmaceuticals, and appropriate laboratory work (Must submit transcripts); OR
Training: Successfully completed 6 months of training for medical technicians, hospital corpsmen, medical service specialists or hospital training obtained in a training program given by the Armed Forces or the U.S. Maritime Service under close medical and professional supervision AND 6 months of specialized experience. Examples include skill in ordering and receiving drugs from supply department, filling work, ascertaining and replenishing needs in clinic and pharmacy supply areas.
GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: skill in recognizing appropriate auxiliary earnings and packaging requirements of drugs dispensed. Assisting pharmacy staff in filling outpatient prescriptions under a pharmacist's supervision; OR
Education/Training: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in pharmacy, or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses OR Successfully completed pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy practices while serving in the Armed Forces which is creditable on a month-for-month basis up to the 1 year of specialized experience (Must submit transcripts); OR
Combination of Specialized Experience & Education: Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level (Must submit transcripts).
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: skill in typing prescription labels, calculating doses to match physician's order with pharmacy stocks and filling prescriptions OR
Education: Successfullycompleted 6 months (9 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position (Must submit transcripts); OR
Combination of Specialized Experience & Education: Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-06 grade level (Must submit transcripts).
Special Qualifications (not required but preferred):
Two-year experience as a Pharmacy Technician OR graduated from an accredited program for the training of Pharmacy Technicians.
National Certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
Knowledge of the laws, regulations and policy and procedures of the pharmacy practice.
Technical knowledge of drug and medication.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
