Duties

Meet with visitors to provide information concerning points of interest, travel routes, historical and natural features, site use opportunities and limitations, and park activities. Advise visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, amenities available, and proper authorized uses of recreational facilities. Prepare recreation areas/sites for visitor use, to include planning, operation, and required maintenance. Plan day-to-day operations of a recreation area or site that provides such facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas; coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel. Plan and schedule to coordinate fee collection, maintenance, and facility repairs with recreation staff. Identify and perform routine facility maintenance and/or repairs which includes signage.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. FOR GS-05: Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: (1) working with others to monitor, collect, and count monetary transactions. Applicants must have interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the public on a day-to-day basis.; (2) Assisting with trash collections, maintenance, and clean-up of a facility; (3) operating a variety of audiovisual and other equipment; (4) providing information to the general public. -OR- Education: You must have completed four years of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Submit Transcripts) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. (Submit Transcripts) FOR GS-07: Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: (1) providing visitor information on public lands and/or recreation areas, trail routes (motorized and nonmotorized), recreational site visit availabilities, or special recreation activities/opportunities; (2) inspecting recreation sites/facilities to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; (3) preparing recreation sites/campgrounds for visitor use; (4) working with others to monitor, collect, count, and record recreation visitor fees from recreation sites/campgrounds and/or digital web-based collection sites. Applicants must have interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public on a day-to-day basis.; (5) operating a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with the recreation management program. -OR- Education: Completed one full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Submit Transcripts) -OR- Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained while pursuing a degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled to include completing four years of study above high school leading to a bachelor`s degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Submit Transcripts) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (Submit Transcripts) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
