DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Squadron (MXS), East Granby, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time Temporary Technician personnel (Tenure 0) and all current traditional members of the CTANG.
Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection.
Duties
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders and/or supervisors, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work. The occupation and nonsupervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Powered Support Systems Mechanic, WG-5378-10.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations.
Assigns tasks to be performed.
Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies.
Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed.
Implements safety regulatory requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS: May work inside or outside. Inside, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside, may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to about 40 pounds. Lifts heavier items using jacks, hoist, or helpers.
Requirements

- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories.
Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.
Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.
Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.
Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines.
Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.
Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.
Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered and non-powered support systems including their major components.
Knowledge of and sill in repairing, overhauling and rebuilding major assemblies of powered support systems equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot more complex malfunctions requiring knowledge of the interaction of several systems.
Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to make repairs and modifications.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.
