This position is organizationally aligned under Facility Management Service (FMS), at the VA Illiana Health Care System VA Hospital (550), Danville, IL - a complexity level 3 VHA facility. The incumbent functions as the Automotive Mechanic Supervisor over the Grounds and Vehicle Fleet Management Section and reports to the Chief, Facility Management Service.

Duties

Provide leadership, instruction, and supervision to subordinate employees assigned to the Grounds and Vehicle Fleet Management Section of Facility Management Service. Oversee employees of the Section in the safe operation and maintenance (through demonstration) of all tools and equipment of the Section such as power riding lawn mowers, agricultural tractors and implements, back-hoes, mini-excavators, front-end loaders, forklifts, snowplows, snow blowers, salt spreaders, chemical sprayers, gasoline pumps, power chain saws, power grinders and various hand and power towels. Makes systematic inspections, writes the requests for purchase of material and supplies for the shop and keeps records on the shift workers, inspections, and service of equipment. Ensures proper maintenance records are kept on all vehicles assigned to VAIHCS and all pieces of equipment assigned to the Section. Oversees the administrative reporting and tracking required in the FLEET and FAST reports. Responsible for the submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual cost and estimated cost reports on vehicles. Directs motor vehicle services and related support to all activities within the facility. Plans, directs, and administers the complete maintenance program for standard and a variety of special purpose vehicles. Administers contracts, ensuring adherence to all terms for the GSA Fleet Management Center. Also enters into service agreements for the maintenance, fuel, and related services with other Federal agencies when cost and other considerations indicate a benefit to the Government will results Work Schedule: Monday - Friday / 7am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Automotive Mechanic Supervisor/PD242710 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized
