This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southern Plains Region, Office of the Regional Director, Branch of Natural Resources in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Duties
Assists in the identification, evaluation, and recording of historic, cultural, sacred and archaeological sites.
Assist in providing technical assistance and advice.
Conduct research in available databases, literature, and records.
Actively participate in digitization of records while protecting sensitive information.
Assists in the preparation of documents, authoritatively explaining and quantifying significance of potential impacts on cultural resources.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions; and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0193: Archeology Series).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL GRADES:
A. 1. Degree: which includes three (3) semester hours of each in the following course areas:
History of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; regional archeology; archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; theory and methods of archeology, including but not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; and archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work; AND six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geology; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying AND archeological field school.

2. Related curriculum - Degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplies the academic course work sufficiently similar to that required in A.1 (including archeological field school).
OR
B. Combination of education and experience - college-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A. above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.

C. Experience - four years of archeological work experience which demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should include a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis and preparation of written materials.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following:
SPECIALIZED GS-9: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, I have at least 1 year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-7 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience must include planning and carrying out cultural resources management and NEPA programs; promote the conservation, development, and wise use of the resources for the maximum benefit of Indian people; and assisting as an advisor on implementing policies and procedures as they relate to cultural resources and archeology.
Education: Master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., must be related to position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: I meet the basic requirement and I have at least 1 year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-09 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience must include planning and carrying out the Bureau's cultural resources management and NEPA programs; fulfill and execute the Federal government's legal responsibilities related to cultural resources used by the tribes for sustenance, cultural enrichment and economic development and support; promote the conservation, development and wise use of these resources for the maximum benefit of Indian people and assisting as an advisor on implementing policies and procedures as they relate to cultural resources and archeology.
Education: OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA'S) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
