You will serve as a FINANCIAL TECHNICIAN in the Comptroller Department (N8) in the Accounting/Financial Execution (N82) of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

Duties

You will review documents to determine signature authentication, correct processing codes, and may include operation of cash registers. You will determine pay, payroll records maintenance and completion of reports pertaining to civilian employees of the Federal Government. You will be answering requests and providing advice to employees, supervisors, staff in other financial management series and personnel specialists on pay related rules, regulations and procedures. You will communicate orally and in writing to obtain and provide information related to organizational, administrative and procedural matters.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Financial Management Level One certified position per the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Section 1599d. You must achieve this level within prescribed timelines. Certification requirements are in DoD Instruction 1300.26.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with DoD or Navy financial systems and familiarity with the DoD FMR. Experience researching systems such as CHOOSE and EDA to resolve accounting transaction posting errors. Experience entering data into financial management systems and extracting data from these systems for export into Excel spreadsheets. Experience utilizing the Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
