Duties

You will serve as the Public Safety Communications Center Supervisor for the commands overall emergency program while providing a 24x7 capability to answer emergency and administrative calls. You will apply a broad range of public safety communications and emergency dispatching operating techniques, policies and procedures to define, coordinate, plan and satisfy user requirements. You will coordinate security and fire protection, and prevention techniques relative to various types of emergency situations. You will use oral communications to elicit and explain information emergency program personnel, local government officials, command staff and the public. You will perform assignments under extremely trying conditions during emergencies and requiring the ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under stress. You will operate a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and other computer equipment within an Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC). You will monitor and operate systems which are critical for National Security. You will receive medical emergency calls, determining the severity of medical emergency, and acting accordingly. You will monitor various computerize emergency systems and databases such as (DCI, NCIC, CLEOC, CJLEADS, etc). You will read interpret from a database info, process, and provide concise information to emergency personnel as required by procedures. You will report discrepancies to Higher Headquarters, and ensure daily checks on all communication equipment used in the Emergency Dispatch Center. You will manage the emergency dispatch systems and the associated data for investigation, evidence and statistical purposes and maintain reports and retrieves needed statistical information. You will oversee the emergency dispatching training program, identify all training which directly impacts the operations of 911 systems, radio communications, alerting systems and the CAD. You will apply procedures, processes, standards, and techniques in cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), emergency telecommunications and hazardous materials.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is required to work an alternate work schedule and subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position is responsible for the 24 hour/7 day operations within the Center. This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You must successfully complete Public Safety Telecommunicator training and certifications as defined in MCICOMO 3502.1 Marine Corps Emergency Dispatch Services Training and Certification Program.
  • Individual is subject to afterhours/off duty hours recall for emergency incidents, personnel deficiencies, or incidents and situations deemed critical by the local command.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You must meet established hearing and vision tests; and, must be able to distinguish colors.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 specialized grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Oversee the organizational structure, equipment, functions, and procedures for emergency programs (e.g. Fire, EMS, and Police) to dispatch appropriate equipment and personnel in emergency situations: develop and monitors budget, requests equipment for maintenance upgrades, and supplies: apply a wide range of communications concepts, principles, and practices to plan, coordinate, review, analyze and resolve telecommunications problems; and provides advice on emergency plans and operations, discusses alternatives, new policies and procedures, and makes recommendations affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency management program.
