You will serve as an Air Traffic Control Specialist in the Sea Range ATC/RCO Section, Sea Range Test Operations Branch, Sea Range Operations Division, Point Mugu Sea Range Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV POINT MUGU.

Duties

You will ensure applicable directives are adhered to for the issuance of a Green Range, management of airspace, control of aircraft and conducting and supporting real-time test and evaluation and training operations on the Point Mugu Sea Range. You will manage personnel to provide training assignments for others to research, conduct and lead classroom training. You will review requests from customers, determine and validate requirements for exercises, flight operations and other special events. You will be responsible for insuring the Sea Range is free of any non-participants which could prevent the operational test from being conducted safely on the Sea Range.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Air traffic control specialists must possess the facility ratings required at the facility where the position is located. You will be required to maintain a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Utilizing Federal Aviation Administration standards to perform air traffic control duties; 2) Independently utilizing principles and methodology of range safety, test conducting, air intercept control, and air traffic control; 3) Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to Special Use Airspace coordination, utilization, and documentation required for use of the airspace; 4) Utilizing range resources as well as demonstrated understanding of their capabilities and limitations. GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Utilizing Federal Aviation Administration standards to perform air traffic control duties; 2) Utilizing principles and methodology of range safety, test conducting, air intercept control, and air traffic control; 3) Assisting with duties related to Special Use Airspace coordination, utilization, and documentation required for use of the airspace; 4) Contributing to projects that utilize range resources as well as demonstrated understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
