About the Position: You will perform as a Maintenance Mechanic performing a variety of operation and maintenance duties at a comprehensive water resource project consisting of a flood control dam and appurtenant structures, public-use recreational facilities, forest lands, and roads.
Duties
Rearrange, modify, and hook up outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers to installed systems.
Perform carpentry work associated with maintaining operations buildings and public access areas.
Remove damaged portions of concrete pavement and portions of masonry walls.
Locate and taps main lines, sets up system routes, places and cuts route openings, places hangars for proper level and slope and determines and installs valves, traps and unions needed for proper operation of systems.
Determine when roof decking, beams or joists are to be replaced and have the ability to complete the replacement or repair.
Determine the method, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required.
Transport personnel, material, equipment, etc. on a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads and on steep winding grades.
Operates front-end loader, bulldozer, etc.
Operate tractor equipped with a backhoe to mow fields, transport equipment and materials, plant/harvest crops, move earth, dig ditches and for similar purposes.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment, for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
- The Government has a Licensing Program which includes but is not limited to Dump Truck, Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift, and Construction Equipment. Where medical surveillance is required, incumbent must be able to pass all required physicals.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence. Where medical surveillance is required, incumbent must be able to pass all required physicals.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
- Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.
- Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position. The maintenance uniform shall be worn in accordance with EP 1130-2-520 Chapter 7.
- Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties in electrical wiring, hydraulic systems, finished carpentry work, finished masonry work, plumbing systems, roofing and structural work. I am skilled in operating a flood control facility and experienced in determining and calculating water releases for flood control purposes. I am considered an expert and work with high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50 pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
