The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). OFMR provides the Smithsonian Institution with a full range of building services through maintenance and operational zones, pan-institutional horticultural support services, and systems engineering support.
Duties
As the Electronics Technician (Fire Alarm Systems), the incumbent will serve under the general supervision of the Life Safety Group Supervisor.

Qualifications
Experience:
For the GS-9, you qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as having knowledge and experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting integrated electronics systems used in the management of an fire alarm systems or similar systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Basic knowledge and experience performing preventive maintenance, testing, and servicing of electronic components and related devices such as fire dampers or fire pumps. They have some knowledge of both wet and dry pipe fire suppression systems.

FOR THE GS-09 ONLY, THE SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED WITH THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. (related to the position). Must provide college transcripts with application.
For the GS-11, you qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as having knowledge and experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting integrated electronics systems used in the management of an fire alarm systems or similar systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Knowledge and experience performing preventive maintenance, testing, and servicing of electronic components and fire dampers or fire pumps. They possess expansive knowledge of both wet and dry pipe fire suppression systems.
For the GS-12, you qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as having knowledge and understanding of building and fire codes and standards; experience installing, troubleshooting/repairing fire alarms, fire suppression and fire damper systems; reviewing designs, specifications, and cost estimates; and providing technical guidance to junior technicians, enhancing team capabilities and knowledge.
AND
For the GS-12 you will need the following: National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification (level-3) in the area of Fire Alarm Systems and at least one other NICET certification in any other field of fire protection; and an associate degree in electronics, engineering, fire protection, or a related field and fire protection experience. Must provide college transcripts with application.
