THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This position is for a Police Officer, Position Description Number D2156000 located at 165th Security Forces Squadron in Garden City, GA.
This is a full-time, Excepted, dual status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership.
Area of Consideration: Open to all Active Duty Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members.
Duties
As a Police Officer, GS-0083-08, you will:
Perform Combat Arms Training. Present repetitive courses or designated blocks of longer courses and presents training material and instruction covering proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents. Instruction may take place in outdoor or indoor training facilities and will require multiple police/combat agility skill demonstrations. Make adjustment in presentation or other instructional methods to resolve common classroom problems, to include those of student motivation and communication, as well as, last minute agenda schedule or student changes, student problems, equipment malfunctions, or lack of supplies. Use training aids and devices in addition to those listed in the POI in a manner that enhances training outcome. Adjust subject matter discussions to assure material is assimilated by all students. Apply specialized subject matter knowledge in course instruction. Maintain accountability and ensure security for weapons/ammunition/explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions.
May oversee the work activities of subordinates and Traditional Guardsmen. Train employees in assigned duties and responsibilities. Assign work, establishes priorities, and ensures technical quality of work products.
Manage and oversee the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serve as an instructor and inspect ground weapons. Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the installation's ground weapons training and maintenance program, incorporating safety requirements, and maintain adherence to safety regulations. Promptly evaluate accidents to determine cause and ensure safety guidelines are followed and necessary precautions are taken to prevent further occurrences. Perform self- inspections and presents detailed reports to senior leadership. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures. Monitor special environmental requirements, such as lead removal. Coordinate with the local Civil Engineering Squadron personnel on various issues, to include development of a joint hazardous waste disposal site and procedures that comply with local environmental laws. Monitor the environment for noise hazards, health problems, and all other safety hazards. Direct and monitor security/resources protection program and procedures. Monitor explosive safety and munitions movement's safety procedures. Notify appropriate unit commanders of current no-shows rates and third time failures, initiate follow-up actions, and briefs data, as directed. On a continual basis, develops tests to effectively evaluate students' current comprehension levels and strives to improve their work performance. Make minor repairs on small arms, using tools, gauges, and equipment. Provide sub-depot level maintenance on ground weapons, assembling and disassembling all small arms utilized in security forces inventory.
Represent the Security Forces Squadron (SFS) with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Provide SFS position on ground combat weapons issued at installation conferences and task group meetings. Coordinate and maintain liaisons with local civilian agencies on matters concerning weapons training and maintenance. Meet with key customer and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures and resolve problems that arise. Provide or ensure that subordinates provide customer guidance and training. Participate in special projects and initiatives and perform assignments. Identify the need for special projects and initiate milestones and goals. Evaluate reports by analyzing facts and performing appropriate research and prepares detailed responses. Determine appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and performs follow-up. Prepare background papers and documentary support for squadron leadership on ground combat weapons and munitions policies, issues and proposals. Allocate section resources to various projects including man-hours and budget. Develop or approve justification for required equipment expenditures within the section. Perform comprehensive data search to identify trends in the training program and makes required business program adjustments.
When needed or directed, perform and enforce the full range of security forces duties within the military installation. Incumbent is exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. Incumbent has full powers to detain, pursue or direct detaining person(s) who attempt to flee crime scenes, an active shooter, or other means of resisting arrest. Incumbent carries a firearm as required or directed.

Requirements
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

General Experience: Candidate must possess experience includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
Specialized Experience: Candidate must have at least 12 months experience at the next lower level that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. This experience must be 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of the position to be filled.
Education
Substitution of Education for specialized experience: High School graduate or the equivalent may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.
