About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Act as the lead for developing each semester’s cadet, faculty, course, section and room schedules.
Responsible for managing our current student management system (SMS) which is currently called AMS and developing the next generation of our SMS including vetting new technology applications to support all Registrar functions.
Work under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Registrar Services (AARS) (the Registrar).
Manage parts of the academic advising program; development of advisors, development of student academic plans, development of academic evaluations, freshman testing for placement, course enrollment management, and managing scholarship programs.
Teach core courses or electives in a discipline offered at the United States Military Academy.
Act as a mentor for cadet clubs and teams, sit on institutional or departmental committees, and participate in faculty development activities.
Program administration includes career services advising, graduation requirements verification, monitoring, service academy exchange, semester abroad program, and graduate records support.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Applicants will be evaluated on the following:
1) An advanced degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree related to a discipline taught at the United States Military Academy preferred).
2) Experience with collegiate scheduling systems, SMSs, academic advising and registrar operations.
3) Ability to provide direction and guidance to peers in a decentralized data management system as well as provide advice and assistance to academic leaders at institutions of higher education.
4) Demonstrated examples of initiatives to improve operations related to registrar functions.
5) Ability to adapt, lead change, critical thinking/problem solving skills, strength of technological acumen, and communicate effectively regarding complex issues.
