About the Position: : This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Anniston Army Depot. This position serves as an Ammunition Inspector, performing surveillance inspection work on a rotation basis in an ammunition activity.
Duties
Performs in process and acceptance inspection including visual, mechanical, chemical, and electrical type tests of Class V guided missiles.
Performs various types of inspections to assist Quality Assurance Specialists.
Inspects storage facilities and makes minor repairs and adjustments or replacement of parts.
Performs verification of production welding performed during renovation, modification, fueling, testing, demilitarization and destruction of missiles and associated component parts.
Conducts visual, mechanical, electrical and chemical tests in workshop, at storage location or at designated inspection station.
Disassembles items and uses a variety of electrical and/or mechanical test equipment to conduct specific tests and investigations accepting or rejecting items on the strength of finding.
Uses a variety of electrical and mechanical test and measurement instruments to conduct specific tests and investigations
Uses measurement instruments while accepting or rejecting units of production on strength of findings.
Prepares reports of defects, deviation from procedures and safety discrepancies discovered during inspections and forwards to supervisor.
Makes minor repairs and adjustments or replacement of parts, in accordance with guidance to insure items stored are compatible.
Ensures that all components, packing material and operational equipment derived from and used in such activities are certified free from explosives prior to removal from work site.
Inspects incoming/outgoing shipments of munitions and associated components to assure correct material is received or shipped.
Ensures adherence to safety procedures by reporting deficiencies for corrective action.
Performs Inspection, segregate, and examine items of munitions and explosives that are of a questionable nature.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (A A E).
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4. Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must complete and pass a pre-employment and appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
- This position requires the incumbent to meet all inspector certification requirements in accordance with regulations.
- This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program governed by AR 600-85, The Army Substance Abuse Program. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019,
- Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Department of the Army Drug Free Federal Workplace Program.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Inspector without more than normal supervision. have the ability to perform common tasks including: Performing ammunition surveillance by assessing material condition, functionality, and serviceability in accordance with (IAW) established guidelines; performs periodic receipt, storage monitoring, pre-issue inspections and all handling operations for guided missiles. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Duties involve walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting moderately heavy items weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally lifting items in excess of 60 pounds. Work requires manual dexterity and mental muscular coordination. Annual physical exam is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. Buildings have cement floors and some are unheated. Occasionally work is of a dirty, greasy nature; and there is noise from production type machinery and power conveyors. Must wear hood and be completely attired in full protective clothing, special gloves, shoes, and coveralls when exposed to missile fuel; other safety equipment includes such items as eye shield, ear plugs and aprons. Incumbent must pass physical examination for working with and handling hazardous chemicals.
