This vacancy is for an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader in the Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader, you will perform the following duties:
Sets work priorities, and demonstrates proper work and safety procedures, installs new split and package HVAC systems; diagnoses and repairs electrical problems, replacing compressors, condenser fans, blower wheels, bearings, and other HVAC system components; uses plans and blueprints to locate and repair HVAC system mechanical, electric/electronic components.
Provides expertise in various HVAC system technologies, including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialized systems and equipment.
Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for building HVAC systems, ensuring the reliability and longevity of equipment and infrastructure.
Leads HVAC projects, providing technical guidance and advice to other departments, contractors, and external stakeholders. - Performs advanced troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve complex HVAC system issues, analyze system failures, and recommend innovative solutions.
Develops and reviews HVAC project specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to applicable codes and standards, and coordinates with other professionals to develop comprehensive project plans.
Provides technical guidance and oversight for HVAC projects performed by contractors, ensuring work quality, adherence to deadlines, and compliance with project specifications and regulations.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C and evaluated under OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which appears as a question in the on-line questionnaire. Applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable of the screen out are given further consideration and those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Your qualifications will be evaluated against the following screen out:
Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision; Sets work priorities, demonstrates proper work and safety procedures, installs new split and package HVAC systems; diagnoses and repairs electrical problems, replaces compressors, condenser fans, blower wheels, bearings, and other HVAC system components; use plans and blueprints to locate and repair HVAC system mechanical, electric/electronic components.
AND
A Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Refrigerant Certification (Type I, II, III, or Universal) is required upon hire or within one year of employment.
A Stationary Engineers license or equivalent is highly preferred.
