This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Great Plains Region in Aberdeen, South Dakota. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see What are bargaining units? NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

Incumbent examines and reviews legal instruments and supporting documents. Maintains a computerized database file of all legal instruments received for recording by entering all pertinent data for the recorded document. Maintains microfilm filing system for all recorded images (microfilm, microfiche, aperture cards) of title documents and Lektriever filing system for title documents retained. Posts Individual identification file of landowner by entering the pertinent title document number. Answers request received by mail, in person or by telephone regarding identification numbers of landowners by researching and preparing routine correspondence. Types from rough draft, verbal or written instructions, reports, letters, and memoranda.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Management Positions, GS-0986). GS-4: I have at least 1 year of full-time general experience* or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS- 3 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience must include general experience which is progressively responsible for clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, OR EDUCATION: 2 years of successfully completed education above the high school level. GS-5: I have at least 1 year of full-time specialized experience** or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector), This experience must include the following activities: initiate and compose standardized legal documents routinely needed for specific legal actions; accept service of legal documents, review them for correct form and timeliness, and annotate case files and status records to reflect receipt and due date for response or other required actions; process legal instruments by checking them for required information, determining if any treatment such as simple computations is necessary, and routing the assembled material to a technical expert for examination; establish, maintain, and close case files or systems of legal records; annotate indices and status records; compile workload and status reports, and locate and abstract data from files and records, OR EDUCATION: 4 years of successfully completed education above the high school level. *GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. **SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA'S) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
