About the Position: The Memorial Affairs Coordinator coordinates the support of Military Funeral Honors (MFH) program including interment ceremonies and exhumations in cemeteries for which they are the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC). Guides Army Commands on the establishment of Memorials in honor and memory of Fallen Soldiers.

Duties

Provide customer service in regard to memorial affairs. Coordinate Military Funeral Honors arrangements with various organizations. Make arrangements for military funerals. Coordinate travel requests for all personnel involved with Military Funeral Honors team and family members. Maintain a database of all Military Funeral Honors.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Employee may be required to stand for several hours and perform recurring lifting of heavy items and equipment (50 pounds or more). Employee may be required to occasionally lift heavy objects such as headstones and caskets.
  • This position requires employees to work irregular tours of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in making arrangements for military funerals, coordinating ceremonies and funeral honors and assisting in the application of death benefit entitlements offered by organizations such as the Veteran Affairs and Social Security Administrations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Mortuary affairs, Business administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) Time-in-Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
