Duties

Interprets Departmental and Bureau policy and directives as they affect planning and programs. Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating resource management programs requiring multiple-use management and protection of a variety of resources. Develops, implements and manages a program of conservation and management of land and resource programs including planning (long and short term), and conducting and coordinating approximately 4 to 6 major functions/programs. Coordinates land and resource planning and management with representatives of other agencies, Federal, State and local governments, the general public, and with private landholders. Provides leadership, motivation, direction, and decisions required to implement and carry out multiple use and ecosystem management. Assigns work based on priorities and capabilities of employees, reviewing work for adequacy and accuracy, policy and regulatory compliance and application.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: demonstrated experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating an array of complex resource management programs to include wilderness, wildlife, forestry, outdoor recreation, soil, water, and air, trail construction and maintenance, cultural resources, land and realty, and fuels/fire prevention; professional knowledge and experience in Natural Resources including Resource Management Plans (RMP), Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and the Antiquities Act of 1906; experience and skills to supervise, lead, and perform administrative and personnel management functions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: The incumbent typically works in an office setting with regular trips to the field via four-wheel drive vehicles, boats, fixed wing aircraft or helicopters.. The work of the position requires the incumbent to occasionally walk moderately long distances over rough terrain during normal fieldwork. Work Environment: Office work is accomplished in an adequately lighted and heated facility. When in the field, subject to injuries when walking in rough terrain and exposure to uncomfortable hot and cold temperatures. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.
