These positions are located in Yosemite National Park, in the Division of Resources Management & Science. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. These positions have a mix of full time and part time schedules. Positions will be on a part time schedule from December through February.

Duties

Identify and survey for invasive non-native plants and native seed-producing plants, collect spatial and tabular data using handheld devices. Set up, sync, and train others in use of handheld devices. Maintain and QA/QC data, update databases as needed. Use GIS to manage and analyze spatial data and produce maps. Safely mix, load, and apply herbicides to treat invasive non-native plants using backpack sprayers, truck-mounted sprayers, and UTVs. Treat invasive plants and collect native seed on roadsides, developed areas, and remote wilderness in arduous conditions(heat, steep slopes, uneven footing, plant and insect pests, poisonous snakes, conducting traffic control, elevations up to 10,000 ft). Collect, clean, and store native plant materials for subsequent propagation, seeding and transplanting. Maintain plants in a holding nursery, outplant, and provide post-planting care. Lead in scheduling work; planning treatment and seed collection strategies, logistics, and safety program; preparing for crew arrival; training crews; conducting field work for crews and volunteers; adjusting plans for actual field conditions; communicating with supervisor and crews.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/17/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Some of these positions perform exotic plant management work which requires mixing, loading, and applying herbicides for the purpose of vegetation control. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for these specific positions. EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) collecting monitoring data on assorted physical restoration, revegetation, or vegetation management projects using specified sampling techniques and procedures; 2) monitoring rare, invasive, or seed source plants and updating maps and files; and 3) leading field crews in invasive plant control, revegetation, or restoration projects . You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 year of graduate education (18 semester hours) directly related to the position such as biology, ecology, botany, chemistry, or natural resource management. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
