About the Position: This position performs a variety of duties related to the inspection, maintenance, and repair of targets, target devices, and the nonvoice telecommunication systems including the copper core and fiber optic data transmission systems of the ranges and immediate areas in which these items are located.

Duties

Transports moving target carriers to ranges to be installed on track. Replaces inoperable components to ensure that mechanical features are synchronized with target devices. Troubleshoots equipment to determine nature of malfunction. Installs target devices to replace devises requiring extensive shop repair. Uses computer system for unit during unit firing on tank and infantry range complexes.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires frequent lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 70 pounds or over with assistance.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
• This position requires a pre-employment physical.

The work requires bending, stooping, and working in cramped positions. Works with electrical power supplies from I2 volt dc, 120 vat to 480 vat, 3 phase high voltage current. Exposed to electrical shock which may cause death or serious injury. Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operation remotely controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, explosive charges equivalent to l/4 pound charge of TNT. Hearing protective devices are issued or available for use.
