This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.
Duties
The incumbent of this position performs assignments associated with the maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings, exterior structures and related fixtures and utilities. This includes the maintenance of items such as tables, signs, shelters, water systems, pumps, and equipment. Duties required the use of concrete, painting, plumbing, welding, and carpentry trade practices.
Perform routine operator maintenance such as lubricating, cleaning filters, and painting equipment and pipes.
Maintain and repair buildings, exterior structures, and related fixtures and utilities - specifically including painting, plumbing, carpentry, cement, and grounds.
Operate or maintain 4x4 trucks and UTVs rough and rocky roads under various environmental conditions.
Utilize safe methods and practices for handling power and hand tools including required use of personal protective gear.
Read and interpret blueprints without more than normal supervision or oversight.

- You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the Bureau of Land Management uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 11 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- May be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to pre-employment testing. Drug testing is required for all individuals selected for employment in testing designated positions.
- In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) carrying out preventive maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings, related fixtures, and utilities without supervision; (2) operating vehicles, equipment, or various materials to perform maintenance work; (3) operating and maintaining machinery and equipment associated with the operations of public buildings, lands, and facilities; (4) operating heavy-duty trucks, lifts, and UTVs.

Physical Effort: Works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, rooftops, and in cramped and hard to reach places. Duty requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring an uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds. Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. May work on steep terrain covered with rocks, slash and debris.
Work Environment: Assignments involve exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, cuts, bruises, and infections. May be exposed to extremes in temperatures ranging from Below Zero to Over 100 degrees. The incumbent may be occasionally exposed to chemicals and other substances used in mechanical area as well as exposed to oil, grease, dirt, fumes, and mechanical noises. The work requires standing on concrete floors, some climbing, walking, and operating within confined spaces. Must be able to work over 10 feet above floors to change, service and adjust lighting. The incumbent will frequently be required to report to work very early on winter mornings to clear snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks prior to the scheduled opening time of the office. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
