About the Position: As a Data Scientist you will drive agency innovation and deliver expert business intelligence with respect to data governance, data visualization, data analysis and management capabilities, organizational capacity, and enterprise analytics infrastructure.
Duties
Utilize tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, PowerBI, Python, Structured Query Language (SQL), SAS, Oracle, and machine learning methods.
Identify methods to improve data reliability and efficiency using programming language and tools.
Define deficiencies and recommend corrective action to data architecture.
Apply critical thinking skills to mine and convey a wide variety of technical information to diverse audiences.
Prepare visual products and reports to communicate technical results and proposed solutions.
Collect and evaluate data within financial and programmatic areas affecting performance indicators and make recommendations for data collection improvements.
Perform research, analysis, and model development projects on data requirements and architecture.
Develop mathematical and/or statistical models for evaluation, identification, collection, and analysis in support of assigned projects.
Requirements

- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Basic Requirements for the GS-11 or GS-12 level:
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Specialized Experience Requirements
GS-11
To qualify at the GS-11 you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level that demonstrates application of analytical, mathematical, and statistical theories, performing research to obtain, develop, and present facts and information on program operations and systems, knowledge of and utilization of data-mining techniques.
GS-12
To qualify at the GS-12 you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level that demonstrates application of complex analytical, mathematical, and statistical theories, conducting research studies to obtain, develop, and present facts and information on program operations and systems, advanced knowledge of and utilization of data-mining techniques, and collaborating with others to solve underlying problems and find solutions to data needs.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9 or GS-11).
