Two positions located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL and the Adam Benjamin Jr. community based outpatient clinic (CBOC), Crown Point, IN.

Duties
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Uses knowledge of contemporary audiology practice;
Exercises independent clinical judgment and adapts clinical procedures and techniques to accommodate age-specific and unique patient conditions, needs, and expectations;
Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners related to diagnostic evaluation and treatment;
Evaluates patients to determine nature, type, and severity of hearing and balance disorders using a full range of diagnostic tests and techniques, past, family, and social history, record review, and consultation with family and other health care practitioners;
Plans, coordinates, and implements a full range of patient-focused treatment services designed to optimize function;
Documents in the medical record: evaluates, diagnosis and clinical opinion, treatment plans, outcomes of treatment, changes in functional status, and patient/family education;
Attends interdisciplinary team meetings; participates with other health care practitioners to address the global needs of the patient, advises on diagnosis and treatment
Provides orientation/training of medical staff
Assists in orientation and training of new staff
Assists in the training and supervision of students, trainees, and fellows, providing feedback on progress toward established educational goals
Keeps current with theory and practice through continuing education programs, journals, textbooks, and other literature, and in-service programs
Provides patient and family education including informed consent
Functions as a supervisory audiologist and is responsible for ensuring that work assignments of the other members of the clinical team are carried out by performing a range of duties such as distributing and balancing workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization
In the absence of the Chief, Audiology and Speech Pathologist, incumbent oversees the professional practice of peers
Serves as facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating initiatives and consensus building activities among clinical team members with wide divergent backgrounds, interest, and points of view
Performs additional duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Must possess a Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).OR (2) Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Licensure: must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency. Audiologist candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Employees in VHA in this occupation, under a permanent, appropriate, and legal placement on the effective date of the qualification standard, are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade and/or assignment held, including positive education and licensure, where applicable.
Grade Determinations:GS-13: Must possess at least two (2) full years of professional Audiology experience with at least one year comparable to the GS-12 grade-level directly related to the position being filled. In addition, I can demonstrate the following professional KSAs:
(a) Skill in conflict resolution to facilitate positive working relationships between employees, team leaders, and managers.
(b) Skill in applying evidence-based practices in a professional area.
(c) Ability to analyze organizational and operational challenges to develop and implement solutions.
(d) Ability to develop the abilities and strengths of current employees.
(e) Ability to balance responsibilities, set priorities, and delegate tasks to meet multiple deadlines.
(f) Ability to analyze data to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the section.
