The incumbent is a social worker and serves in a full-time capacity within the Mental Health Service (MHS) at VA Detroit Healthcare System which includes John D. Dingell VA Medical Center (JDDVAMC) and its affiliated community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), the Veterans Community Resource & Referral Center (VCRRC), and The VALOR Center.

Duties

The social worker coordinator will have both administrative and clinical responsibilities within the Recovery Section as a member of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) Program. The social worker will be responsible for coordinating and managing services within the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) Program. Additionally, the incumbent will serve as the Early Psychosis Intervention Coordination (EPIC) Point of Contact (POC). Clinically, the incumbent will mainly provide assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, and psychoeducation. Care will be expected to be delivered mainly in person as well as through VA Video Connect (VVC) to the Veteran's home or other safe location. Patients will be presenting with a broad spectrum of mental health, emotional, and behavioral presentations, often with comorbidities. The PRRC is a community-based, comprehensive, multidisciplinary program intended to provide recovery services in an outpatient setting. The primary client group consists of Veterans with GAF scores of 60 or less, and a diagnosis of Serious Mental Illness (SMI). The PRRC offers a menu of daily treatment alternatives with sufficient variety to support meaningful choice, based on the Veteran's individual perception of how these choices will assist personal goals. The standard location of work will be where the Recovery MH Programs are generally located, which is currently at the VALOR Center in Detroit. The Social Worker Coordinator (PRRC) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the PRRC Program, including but not limited to ensuring all scheduled programming occurs and is high-quality, accepting and dispositioning referrals/consults in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring compliance with NEPEC program monitoring protocol, CARF accreditation requirements, and national guidance. Incumbent coordinates PRRC Program staff of various GS levels and disciplines and provides administrative, technical, and clinical consultation necessary for accomplishing the work of the programs including outreach efforts and efforts at other sites within the Medical Center. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Grade Determinations: At the GS-12 grade, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS12. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is the GS12. Physical Requirements: Ability to physically access various treatment settings within the facility. Ability to use computers frequently/continuously throughout the day for data input and communication. Ability to use phone. Position is primarily sedentary, and incumbent must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. May require light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds) and climbing stairs as needed. Ability to walk up and down steps. Ability to navigate unfamiliar surroundings. Possession of current and valid driver's license is a requirement as incumbent is the coordinator for the PRRC which is a community based program and may participate in the community with Veterans in support of their goals.
