The Cardiology (PA) assesses, plans, implements, collaborates and evaluates the needs and care of patients with acute and chronic disease. Promotes self-care, and collaborates with patients to establish realistic health goals. In addition, provides patient and family teaching, staff education, and consults and collaborates with other health care providers; participates in nursing and medical research; prescribes medications and adjunctive modalities; and refers patients as needed.

Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties may include but not limited to: Coordinate and supervise the delivery of complex outpatient care for cardiology patients including patient evaluation; order, schedule, and/or perform cardiologic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as cardioversions and pharmacologic stress tests; patient scheduling; and telephone triage for cardiac issues. Serve as primary Cardiology provider for an independent panel of clinic patients. Provide case management in support of physicians, as needed. Perform outpatient and inpatient cardioversions Help triage interfacility consults to cardiology service; Integrate research findings and practice changes based on evidence-based guidelines, including AHA and the ACC practice statements and other scientific inquiry. Coordinate and participate in research activities as identified within the Cardiology Section. Provide clinical consultation and education related to the management and care of the heart disease patient for staff, physicians, and other disciplines who may have contact with, or care responsibilities for, this patient population. Coordinate and participate in the implementation of clinical practice guidelines used within the Cardiology section and service line for the hospital. Obtain and document relevant health risks and medical history. Perform new patient Cardiology consultation and return Cardiology visits and Telephone follow up visits and collaborate with Cardiology staff. Establish a comprehensive plan of care based on clinical findings and current cardiac care guidelines and standards of care. Establish mutual goals with patient/family. Prescribe medications based on patients' status, accepted scientific guidelines, prescriptive authority, and ongoing evaluation of therapies. Lead and direct others in Cardiology to assure access to and continuity of care across the VA continuum, between referral bases, and transitioning from inpatient/observation status toward outpatient follow-up care. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including but not limited to, x rays, EKGs, laboratory tests, stress tests, etc. Must be able to interpret EKGs in "real time" and correlate with clinical presentation, anticipating and responding quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Triage requests for outpatient or inpatient Cardiology consultation in a timely manner, coordinate tests and visits based on clinical urgency, and assist in facilitating IFC consults and referrals from other VA facilities. Support and enhance the mission and goals of the Hershel Woody Williams VA Medical Center. Work effectively with others to initiate and lead interdisciplinary groups, and establish relationships with professional and/or other related groups within the community. Develop a professional practice by leadership and accomplishments in the development and implementation of best-practice guidelines in the patient care and healthcare delivery. Demonstrates an integral role in preparing and maintaining Joint Commission Accreditation. Demonstrate ability to function independently in advanced leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, and project management skills. Work with the attending electrophysiologist/interventional cardiologist assessing patients on the inpatient and outpatient settings, including but not limited to pre-procedure work ups, post procedure evaluations. Other Duties as assigned Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: Recency and Quality of Experience. Recency or quality of training and experience as a PA should be carefully reviewed when determining the appropriate grade. To be creditable, experience must demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills and abilities related to the current practice of a PA. The importance of specific types of experience or training may vary per the intended assignment. Grades. The level of PA practice may be performed based on a combination of education and experience. Beyond the minimum education requirements, grade determination upon appointment, and advancement is dependent more on acquired knowledge, skills, and abilities than baseline education. As the PA acquires the knowledge and judgment that accrues with experience, the privilege of increased authority for patient care maybe expanded. Research. At any grade, PAs may assist in or conduct approved research projects relative to PA care that enhances their knowledge and skills in the profession.
