About the Position: Performs as a Library Technician and reports to the Chief Librarian. Independently performs both technical and public services, to include cataloging, acquisitions, processing, circulation, reference, customer service, outreach, and collection maintenance. The Presidio of Monterey is located in the city of Monterey, California, a scenic coastal city that prides itself on being a clean and safe place to live. Duties
Shelves books, monographs, periodicals, and audiovisual materials while maintaining the appearance and proper order of the collection.
Using established procurement methods and procedures, incumbent selects, orders, and tracks library materials for acquisitions.
Prepares correspondence and reports; updates Standard Operating Procedures; and collects statistics.
Fulfills access and circulation desk duties, by providing a full range of circulation, reader and reference services, such as charging and discharging materials using the automated circulation system, registering customers, and answering questions.
Assists in public services outreach activities such as book displays, special events, and other programs.
Assists with bibliographic and authority record maintenance by correcting errors in data entry, formatting, and coding.
Resolves problems with availability, circulation status, barcode, or call number as encountered.
Receives and processes library materials and supplies using manual and automated ordering and tracking methods.
Serves in rotation with other library employees during evening hours and/or on Sunday shifts.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting patrons in locating information resources utilizing an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
GS-05 Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
GS-05 Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes accessing and/or retrieving library information resources utilizing an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes inputting, updating, and retrieving resource data within the library's cataloging system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
