The VA North Texas VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Pipefitter. The Pipefitter position is located within the Facilities Management Department in Garland Texas. The primary functions include working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam.

Duties

This position serves as a Pipefitter within the Facilities Management Department. The primary functions include working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Installs, operates, repairs & maintains all Plumbing facilities and equipment, showers, sinks, drains, drinking fountains, sewer mains, sprinkler system. Maintains heat exchangers, distribution systems, maintains Steam equipment, steam cookers, steam mains, steam tables, hot water heaters, heat radiators, steam traps, repair pipe coverings. Repairs all type pipe and mechanical components associated with pipe fitting and plumbing units. Repairs damaged piping to manufacturing units specifications , knowledge of standard practices. Maintains various plumbing and pipe fitting stages of construction projects involved with VA facility. Maintains knowledge of standard practices, procedures, safety regulations and National Plumbing Code. Incumbent is required to understand and work from blueprints, sketches and manufactures detailed drawings related to pipe fitter and steamfitter trade Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Pipefitter/PD93229A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over; straight pulling (1 hour); pulling hand over hand (1 hour); pushing 1 hour); reaching above shoulder, use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing 4 hours; crawling and kneeling 4 hours; repeated bending 4 hours; climbing legs only; climbing use of legs and arms; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and smelly. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions, Employee works in manholes, kitchens, building basements, etc. The employee is exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections. Due to the nature of the work exertion and fatigue are experienced.
