You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SAFETY DEPARTMENT of MCAS BEAUFORT SC.

Duties

You will assist the Safety Officer and higher graded specialist in program management. You will administer the Marine Corps and Navy Occupational Safety and Health hazards abatement programs. You will initiate and conduct safety awareness and other educational programs. You will assist in the planning and conduct training for the MCAS Traffic Safety Program. You will monitor the Marine Corps hazardous materials management program. You will conduct the Marine Corps ground mishap reporting program.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Navy Confined Space Safety Course or equivalent OSHA 2264 certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting with planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the major categories of a safety and occupational health program and its overall effectiveness. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

1 full year of graduate level education

or

superior academic achievement

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
