Duties
Use precision tools to set up codes and make up coded locks and keys for all locks requiring several types of keys.
Install, repair, test, maintain and modify a wide variety of commercial locking devices with varying makes and models found in desk, safes, vaults, mobile equipment and secured areas.
Operate a variety of tools such as electric drills, soldering irons, brazing torches, bench lathes, drill press, grinders, and hand tools to repair and fabricate parts associated with locking mechanisms/devices.
Read and interpret technical manuals, manufacturer’s diagrams and specifications for use in the repair and testing of locks and locking mechanisms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain an Army Motor Vehicle operator’s permit within 6 months of appointment into the position.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug testing.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A pre-employment and recurring comprehensive background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver’s license.
- This Position requires pre-employment and annual physicals.

About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as a Locksmith located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. This position performs installation, repair, maintenance and modifications to a wide variety of commercial locking devices and utilizes a variety of tools and machines to repair and fabricate parts for all locks, safes and vaults.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Locksmith without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including install and maintain keying and locking devices; disassemble cylinders, change combinations by installing new springs, bottom, master, and top pins for keys, reassemble and reinstall; and use locksmith techniques to open all types of locking devices.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: This positions requires standing, walking, stooping, and bending; some lifting is required of objects normally exceeding 50 pounds. Incumbent may also assist in moving heavy cabinets and security containers.
Working Conditions: This position requires work to normally be performed in well lighted, heated and ventilated offices and shops. Incumbent is exposed to dust, oil, grease, and dirt when cleaning and lubricating machines and frequently to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises. Incumbent is also subject to emergency callback work after normal duty hours and scheduled overtime.
