This announcement is for the Summer Tampa Research Immersion Program (Summer TRIP) at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital. Summer TRIP is part of the Summer Research Program sponsored by VA Office of Research and Development (ORD). Student trainees (scholars) are key for the development of future generations of VA researchers in basic, clinical, and implementation science who will contribute to innovations in healthcare for our nation's Veterans.

Duties

The position falls within the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Research and Development (R&D) Service at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital. The position will work under the technical direction of a Principal Investigator. The position reports to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for R&D Service (or designee) and works under supervision in conformance with established practices and prescribed procedures. Selected candidates who meet specific criteria may be eligible for a stipend upon approval by the organization. Duties The position is vital within the VA ORD and the facilities where research programs are conducted. Duties will be directed and overseen by a Principal Investigator of biomedical, clinical, and/or implementation science research studies at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital. This position entails work within Biomedical and/or Human Subjects research laboratories, assisting investigators, project managers, technicians, and other research staff in the conduct of research projects. Major Duties Assist with performing data entry for biomedical and clinical research experiments. Data analysis for biomedical or clinical research. Conduct or assist with basic science experiments. Maintain research records. Participate in research group meetings. May participate in animal research. Other duties as assigned. Student scholars are expected to adhere to hospital policies. Student scholars are expected to adhere to ethical guidelines for the conduct of research. Work Schedule: Varies Compressed/Flexible Schedules: Not Eligible Telework: Not Eligible Remote: Not Eligible Position requires filing a Financial Disclosure report: No Physical Requirements: The work is not always sedentary due to the regular laboratory work where lifting, standing, walking, stair climbing, sitting, manual dexterity and a large degree of mental concentration are required. These will be above the average demands and levels of sedentary work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2024. Basic Requirement: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. Qualified applicants will have a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This position does not require prior work experience. This position does not require a practice license. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
