About the Position: This position is in the AD Support Research and Engineering Vision Center of Excellence located at Silver Spring, MD.

Duties

Identify, gather, and assess available data on ocular injuries and vision-threatening conditions and designs and conducts epidemiological studies of associated outcomes. Disseminate findings in appropriate forums to include clinical practice guidelines, clinical recommendations, technical reports, presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles. Provide expert professional advisory services to the research team and other agencies or civilian counterparts on advanced statistical methods and procedures. Serve as team leader to coordinate team composition, skills and equipment needed to conduct epidemiological studies as indicated. Conducts complex innovative research requiring a very high degree of statistical expertise. As the expert, provides troubleshooter and consultation services when specialized and complex problems arise having statistical support implication.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Approximately 10% travel may be required. Travel may involve local, and or overnight.

Basic Requirement for Epidemiologist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes generating epidemiological reports using automated system and utilizing programs for statistical analysis; overseeing epidemiological studies related to ocular and vision health. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Health Policy Planning SupportHealth Systems AnalysisResearch Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
