About the Position: This position is located at A.T Augusta Military Medical Center (ATMMC) formerly known as Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) with of the Directorate of Surgery, Dept of Perioperative Nursing Main Operating Room (MOR).

Duties
Provide direct surgical support of a highly specialized nature to patients undergoing surgery including the newest and most complex, state-of-the-art procedures in multi-specialties.
Select, assemble, and organize required supplies (setup, connect, test, operate drills, saws, etc.) and instruments for specific surgical procedures.
Pass instruments and equipment to the surgeon during surgical procedures by anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
Verify whether the counts are correct or incorrect and communicate with the circulating nurse throughout the case to insure no items are retained in the surgical wound.
Clean or terminate operating room after surgical procedures. Remove and properly dispose of soiled and/or contaminated linens/materials.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications for GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting surgical providers in a variety of surgical procedures and preparing patient for procedure or setting up equipment/instruments for designated procedure.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Surgical Technology.
OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Qualifications for GS-08
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting surgical providers in a variety of surgical procedures and setting up the various surgical equipment or instruments needed in the operating room. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Surgical Technology. (Note: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
